What is Ready to Work?

This one-of-a-kind program connects San Antonians to education and quality jobs – and, ultimately, well-paid careers that can sustain their families.

And we’ll be with you every step of the way. Your personal Ready to Work coach will:

  • Get to know you and understand your specific situation
  • Provide guidance and resources throughout the process
  • Guide you through career and education exploration and planning
  • Help you enroll in approved courses
  • Connect you with tuition assistance and funds for urgent needs
  • Help you secure and retain a well-paid job

 

Ready to Work will get you Hired to Work in a career you'll love.

Who is eligible for Ready to Work?

  • San Antonio resident – Check your residency »
  • 18 years or older when applying for the program
  • Permitted to work in the US
  • Annual household income is less than 250% of the federal poverty guidelines »
  • Willing to take assessments related to barriers, academics, skills aptitude, and workplace readiness
  • Committed to completing the program
  • Committed to finding full-time employment


If you live in Bexar County and you or a family member has served in the military, you may qualify. See details here.

High School Equivalency

Earning a high school diploma or a GED will open many doors. Once you’ve earned it, you can continue in another Ready to Work program to take your future to the next level.
Certification Courses

Increase your earning potential and improve your resume by earning a certificate in a high-wage, high-demand field, including technology, healthcare, construction, business and more.
Associate Degrees

Expand your employment opportunities with just 60 college credit hours needed to earn your first college credential – an associate degree.
Bachelor’s Degrees

If you’ve already earned 30 college credit hours, Ready to Work can help you complete your Bachelor’s degree.

Step 1: Watch the Ready to Work Application Prep Video

The Ready to Work Application Prep video will give you an overview of the Ready to Work program, as well as the:

  • Eligibility requirements
  • Participant commitment requirements
  • Benefits, limitations, and expectations


Step 2: Attend an Enrollment Expo

Step 2: Attend an Enrollment Expo.

Attending the Enrollment Expo is a requirement to be eligible for the Ready to Work program. This one-stop session includes:

  • A more in-depth overview of the Ready to Work program;
  • Information on local labor market needs within high-demand occupations;
  • Completion of your pre-admission assessment and confirmation of eligibility;
  • Completion of your occupational interest and academic assessments; and

Initial development of your individual training, education, and career plan (Success Plan).

Complete a Career Interest Assessment Gather the Required Eligibility Documents

Register to Attend an Enrollment Expo

Step 3: Meet with your Enrollment Coach

You’ll need to meet with your Enrollment Coach to review your assessment results, complete your success plan, and to confirm your class placement, schedule, and location – get enrolled!
