PAC Becomes 13th Official Microsoft Data Center Academy in North America
September 26, 2024
Palo Alto College announces its designation as North America's 13th official Microsoft Data Center Academy. This landmark achievement for the Network and Cloud Computing program will assist in providing accessible, high-quality technology education and prepare its students for the in-demand jobs of the digital age.
This partnership comes as Microsoft significantly expands its presence in San Antonio, solidifying the region's role as a burgeoning tech hub. After investing substantially in new data center facilities, including a $482 million project in Castroville, Microsoft has partnered with institutions such as Palo Alto College to fill the growing need for skilled cloud computing and IT professionals.
Palo Alto College's Network and Cloud Computing program is a nationally recognized program designed to meet the needs of today's tech-driven world. The program offers stackable certificates, an Associate of Applied Science degree, and early internship opportunities. Students also have the chance to earn free industry certifications, further enhancing their career prospects.
The Microsoft Datacenter Academy designation will bolster the program with the addition of an expanded datacenter lab on campus that will operate as a mini data center. Students will receive direct mentorship from Microsoft professionals and apply what they learn through hands-on work experience. Currently, 257 students majoring in Cyber Defense & Operations, Network & Cloud Computing, and Computer & Network Support Specialist would benefit from the Academy Designation.
Scholarships and grants are also available through the Microsoft Datacenter Academy, providing students a clear pathway to a rewarding career. Notably, two Palo Alto College students have already completed the Microsoft Data Center Academy internship and have been hired on as full-time employees. PAC Network and Cloud Computing Major, Djory Louis, was recently awarded the Data Center Academy internship for Fall 2024.
"We are honored to be selected as a Microsoft Data Center Academy," said Joseph Coppola, Department Chair at Palo Alto College. "This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to provide accessible and innovative educational opportunities to high-wage, high-demand careers. By offering our students an industry-recognized curriculum, hands-on lab experience, mentorship, and work experience, we ensure they are well-prepared for the exciting career possibilities in cloud computing and IT, particularly those emerging right here in San Antonio."
